Google has some new policies on trademarks in their ad campaign. If you’re advertising a name brand product it may be very difficult to get your ad approved. There are however some work arounds to getting things done, and getting your advertisement in a position to make some cash. Here’s how to get trademarked ads approved in Google Ad Words!
Many advertisers on places like commission Junction and Click Bank will allow direct linking to their products. This is great if you don’t have, or don’t want to manage a webspace or landing page. You can use their already tailored one, and the link goes directly to what your customer wants to purchase. This way you can make money without a website!
However, there’s rules for how you can use their trademarks. Especially when it comes to adwords. I can see Google’s point of view. They want to make sure ads are not scam sites. You know, those places that redirect you to another URL and steal your important information. Allowing that sort of thing on your paid for search would be bad business.
If you do have a legitimate ad there are a few things you can do to get around that issue. One of the big issues I had was for display URL. Google wants your display URL to match the actual web address that you’ve entered. This prevents the shifty business of people being hopped to places they didn’t intend to go.
Usually, you will be within the terms of Google, and your affiliate if you use their URL, but ad something to the end that states that you are an affiliate, and not the actual site even though you’re sending them there. Probably, so that the site is not responsible for your ad copy text if you state something false. Like if you tell their customers that clicking that ad will get them 50% off their purchase when it really doesn’t. Something like www.ebay/Aff will usually suffice for both parties.
For clarification, no I am not suggesting you lie to people to get them to click on your links. First they, and your affiliate partner, and probably Google will be upset over it. Which will most likely result in getting you banned from that advertiser’s program, your commissions reversed, and maybe banned from Adwords.
Using trademarks may make it hard to get your ad approved. Things like ‘ebay’, ‘amazon’, ‘pac sun’, ect. If you’re having a problem with this try to advertise your product without mentioning the trademarked term in the actual ad copy text. For example take these two headlines..
Great Deals on Books At Amazon! vs. Books Starting at $0.99!
Describing what you’re actually selling in the ad copy will be approved, while selling Amazon will probably not be. Though I’ve always been allowed to use the website name in the display url. Which will still mention where your items are from, but your ad will most likely be approved.
Your ads may need a set time frame to be approved for certain sections or other criteria that Google flags. Following these guidelines I have had all my ads approved so far. If your ad has been disapproved by the adwords team re-check all your information, fix your errors, and re-submit appropriately.
