It’s true; I’m a long time Twitter hater. I refuse to have a personal Twitter account mostly, because I can do pretty much the same thing with my Facebook to friends and family. My Twitter hate is not really warranted; though I guess I never really saw the point to it. Though I’m slowly starting to agree with a quote I read once that I can’t seem to remember who it was from.
“Facebook is for people you used to know, Myspace is for people you don’t want to know, and Twitter is for people you need to know.”
I finally broke down, and made a Penny Seeds twitter account a while back. I’m seeing how I was ignorant to the traffic you can be placed in front of with Twitter. Much the way Facebook multiples quickly with likes, friends, ect. so do tweets. A single Twitter user can have thousands of readers.
So, if they are kind enough to re-tweet your article for you then all those people are potentially meeting you for the first time. I’ve slowly been following other re-lated sites on my Twitter. Several people having been tweeting my stuff for me too! (Thanks for that.) Especially on Topsy; which is an interesting site in itself. I’d never heard of Topsy until I got a ping back saying one of my articles was listed on it.
Will all of these people be interested in your stuff? No, probably not. But if even a portion of those people’s followers like your material it’s worth your time. My network is not nearly as big as other people’s right now, but I’m working on it. If you’d like to follow me click on my Twitter button to the right. It would be much appreciated.
The only problem I seem to have with Twitter, and probably why I dislike it so; is the character limit. I know that’s rather the point, but I guess I’m always pretty verbose when I type. I’m learning to be short and sweet with my text on Twitter which may not be all bad.
I suppose I can think of Twitter as the summary page to the content. People summarize all their news into a tiny link, and a snappy one liner. This tells them whether they want to read your whole article. Different, but interesting. My experiments with Twitter are sure to continue. : )

Twitter can be a VERY useful tool if you use it the right way. Because it is a social media tool, it can really allow for you to connect to your readers/audience and it can be a really personal relationship too.
Twitter really is a strange beast. If it weren’t for the fact that I see some marketing potential in it, I’m not sure I’d be interested in it at all. But it does kind of grow on you after a while.
Twitter is an awesome tool to reach your target audience, especially considering how small your time investment in twitter usually is. By enforcing the character limit, Twitter makes sure to keep it that way.
I usually don’t spend more than 15 minutes a day on Twitter, yet can get a quick glance on what’s going on everywhere, faster and more direct than via any traditional media.
I really hope you can further overcome your Twitter hate, trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
Greetings from Germany.
